Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me."
—Matthew 16:18

Faith Without Works Is Dead

Acts of community service are the lifeblood of our Church. If we are to be true disciples of Christ, we must strive to fully live out his commandments, and therefore we take our works of charity very seriously. In all of our acts we strive to demonstrate Christ-like love for our neighbors.

"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"

—James 2:20

We do good works for the love of God and the love of neighbor. If one truly does love God, how can he not have mercy on his neighbor? Whether it be our youth programs, philoptochos organization, or feeding the poor, parishioners at our church have bountiful opportunities to make a direct impact on our community.

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

—Matthew 25:40

Specific Ministries

During any of our services the gates should be open. Pull through to the parking lot in the back, then either walk around to the front or go through the door in the back. If you go in through the back door, take a right in the hall and proceed to the Narthex.

  • Philoptochos

Our philoptochos society is dedicated to serving our community in any way our community needs. Translated to English, philoptochos means "friends of the poor", and our members exemplify this through unending community service, charitable works, and financial assistance to those in the community that need it the most.

  • Greek Fest

The Roanoke Greek Fest is our way of sharing our culture, traditions, and cuisine with all of Roanoke! We feed thousands who come to our Church, dance along with the live band, share drinks with our neighbors, and host a marketplace for all things Greek and Orthodox!

  • GOYA

GOYA, or Greek Orthodox Youth of America, is our ministry to make sure our teenage members understand and fully experience their beautiful Orthodox faith. There are many events throughout the year for our members to participate in, and they always see their faith come alive through GOYA.

  • Camp Good Shepherd

Camp Good Shepherd is a wonderful summer camp where youth in the Church get to spend a week exploring their faith, learning, playing, and making new friends.

  • Feeding The Poor

Monthly, our church cooks for hundreds of the disenfranchised in Roanoke through our partnership with The Least of These. Our parishioners assemble, cook, and distribute food to anyone who needs it.

  • College Outreach

Father Theodore regularly holds services at two colleges near Holy Trinity, Virginia Tech and Virginia Military Institute. This gives college students a chance to participate in Orthodox worship even though there are no Orthodox Churches near them.
